Showtime is a premium network that has been delivering popular content for years. They've done great work with documentaries, and they've had shows based on true stories that have made headlines. Currently, the network is receiving a ton of coverage thanks to their newest hit, Yellowjackets.

This series is red-hot right now, and while filming certain things aren't always easy, the stars of the show are benefiting from its word-of-mouth. Melanie Lynskey is the lead on the show, and her career has hit a new level thanks to the success of the series. It's been a long journey for Lynskey, who's been acting for decades.

Let's take a closer look at her work prior to being on Yellowjackets.

Melanie Lynskey Is Thriving On 'Yellowjackets'

Yellowjackets is one of the hottest shows on the small screen, and Melanie Lynskey has been brilliant in each episode. The Showtime series has trucked through season one, and Lynskey's performance has turned her into a star.

Lynskey's portrayal of Shauna has been exceptional, and when speaking with Rolling Stone, she talked about an aspect of her life that helped with her performance.

"The way I was brought up was to not show a ton of emotion and not get angry. I’m trying to get better at letting the anger come out at all. There’s so many years of just not knowing what to do with it. I had a therapist once say something about, ‘You’re scared that if you even let a little bit of it out, it’ll just never stop. It’ll just overwhelm you and you’ll just be furious forever.’ Which really resonated with me," she said.

Lynskey also made sure that the character would serve as a recognizable person to those who may not fit the perpetuated ideal physical shape.

"It was really important to me for [Shauna] to not ever comment on my body, to not have me putting a dress on and being like, ‘I wish I looked a bit better.' I did find it important that this character is just comfortable and sexual and not thinking or talking about it, because I want women to be able to to watch it and be like, ‘Wow, she looks like me and nobody’s saying she’s the fat one.’ That representation is important," said the actress.

Her career is red-hot right now thanks to Yellowjackets, but the truth is that she had been putting in work for years before landing on the show.

In the world of film, Melanie Lynskey has been plugging away since the 1990s, and she has been in far more projects than some people realize.

Movies like Ever After, Coyote Ugly, Sweet Home Alabama, and Flags of our Fathers were successes earlier on in her career, and she has continued to land roles in larger projects.

Lynskey has also been featured in movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and just last year, she appeared in Don't Look Up, which was one of the most talked-about movies to hit Netflix in ages.

When discussing how she landed the role in the star-studded film, Lynskey said, "My agent said to me, “I think you’re going to get offered this movie. I’m trying to get you the script.” And I was like, “I feel like I’ll just do it anyway,” because it’s an Adam McKay movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. That was all I knew at that time. I was so excited. And then I started hearing about the rest of the cast, and I was just like, “Are you kidding?” Every piece of the puzzle was dreamier and dreamier. It was amazing."

Lynskey's film work has been solid, and she's also done some exceptional work on television.

In 2003, she scored the role of Rose on Two and a Half Men, and she appeared in over 60 episodes of the series. This was a major breakthrough for the actress, and she would continue to add impressive credits as time went on.

Prior to getting the lead on Yellowjackets, Lynskey also appeared on shows like Psych, The L Word, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, House, Young Sheldon, and Mom. Believe us when we say that this hardly scratches the surface of her impressive credits.
