Shawn Mendes is still in his early twenties, but he is has written enough love songs to span a lifetime. The young Canadian singer has no issue telling the “Señorita’s” to find someone to “Treat You Better,” and the message has certainly seemed to stick. After all, who wouldn’t be a fan of such an encouraging lesson for today’s angsty (and enamored) teenagers?
The only catch to Shawn’s life coaching approach to song lyrics is, well, his own limited dating experiences. In fact, the pop star has remained single for most of his career, divulging only attachments to Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) and Camila Cabello.
So, were there any other ladies that have called to Shawn’s heart in past years? Let’s take a look:
Shawn’s Mysterious Love Life
Celebrities can be super private about their budding romances and often keeping their new relationships secret for months on end. Shawn seems to be no exception to that rule, even trying to pass off a date with Hailey Baldwin as “just a friend’s thing” to the press. Not that the pair fooled anybody!
Shawn also long remained as tight-lipped as ever about his current relationship with Camila Cabello. The pair spent years hitting major events and private together, without labeling their relationship for the public. It wasn’t until 2019 that Camila finally divulged that the man she’d been in love with for years was actually Shawn.
After so many years of build-up, very few folks were particularly shocked by the news, but- hey- at least the couple tried to keep things under wraps.
The Secret Girl From Before
Given all of Shawn’s intensely ‘hush-hush’ attitude towards his two latest girlfriends, some fans may be shocked to know that not every girl he’s gone out with has been awarded that level of privacy. Back before he was rich and famous, Shawn had a high school sweetheart. And he liberally posted photos of her to his social media. Oh, how his tune has changed!
Back in the day, Shawn went to prom with a girl that has been identified as Lauren Arendse. Fans have long speculated that she is also the high school girlfriend who the singer referenced in a 2017 Q&A: “I actually had a girlfriend for two years and so I wrote songs about her. But I write a lot of songs about love that I may not understand exactly.” Hm, that’s a very coy answer, but we are digging it!
It definitely seems like Shawn will be learning a lot more about love and relationships now that he and Camila are floating on Cloud Nine. And if his new releases are as catchy as “Señorita,” then we can definitely expect to see Shawn launch some hits in the coming years. In the meantime, we wish Shawn and Camila happiness.
