As anyone who pays attention to the media that focuses on celebrities will already know, the powers that be in Hollywood and the recording industry are extremely superficial. On top of that, the truth of the matter is that the general public can be just as cruel, if not worse. For proof of that fact, all you have to do is keep in mind that millions of people loved watching the show Fashion Police over the years because of the often unnecessarily harsh critiques.

Unfortunately, when Demi Lovato shaved their head, some people expressed disapproval but on the other hand, most of their fans embraced the new look. Most importantly, Lovato seems to love their shaved head and based on what Demi has said, removing all of their hair was very meaningful for them.

Since Demi Lovato has been famous since their youth, they clearly know how harsh the media and people on social media can be. For that reason, a lot of the people who’ve gone through everything that Lovato has dealt with would go out of their way to keep their issues private. Thankfully for the rest of the world, Lovato has proven time and time again that they are far braver than most people.

Unlike most stars who do everything in their power to seem perfect, Demi Lovato has been very honest with the world about all of the issues they have dealt with. For example, in an attempt to help other people who have dealt with the same issue, Lovato has been very open about their eating disorder. Furthermore, Lovato has made it a habit to post photos on social media that show that she is an actual human being instead of the photoshopped photos that other stars post.

Why Demi Lovato Shaved Their Head

In addition to talking about their struggles in the public, Demi Lovato has also been open about their journey to understand their own gender and sexuality. For example, after only dating men in public, Lovato revealed that they are gender fluid and use they/them pronouns. Additionally, Lovato described themselves as “queer” in July of 2020. Later, Lovato would go on to state they are pansexual and gender fluid.

Just like they revealed more and more about their gender and sexuality over the years, Demi Lovato’s hair has gone on a bit of a journey. After sporting long hair for years, Lovato shaved the left side of their head only, then cut all of their hair short. When they were still sporting short hair, Lovato made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. During the resulting interview, Lovato explained how cutting off their long hair was freeing for them.

“I cut my hair because I just wanted to free myself of all of the gender and sexuality norms that were placed on me as a, you know, Christian in the south. Um, and when I cut my hair I felt so liberated because I wasn’t subscribing to an ideal or a belief placed upon me to be something that I’m not. And, now that I’m owning who I am, like I feel the happiest I’ve ever felt.”

Then, in December of 2021, Lovato revealed on social media that they shaved their head and were sporting a very short buzzcut. When they posted the Instagram video that showed off their new look, the caption made it clear that taking their hair shorter helped Lovato to feel even freer since it included “#freshstart”.
