The Harry Potter franchise is one of the biggest and most important film franchises of all time, and its impact cannot be overstated. The books were already a major success, but the franchise really hit another level once it was brought to the big screen with the perfect cast playing their roles to perfection.

During a scene that featured Daniel Radcliffe kissing Emma Watson, Rupert Grint wound up having a little too much fun watching the awkwardness unfold, and this led to Emma Watson taking matters into her own hands.

Let’s take a closer look at the moment in question and hear how things played out from the actors themselves.

The Harry Potter franchise saw Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson all grow up in front of the world while playing iconic fictional characters. Behind the scenes, the trio became close friends and formed a tight bond. This, in turn, made moments of kissing between them in front of the cameras weird. At one point, Watson and Radcliffe had to kiss for a scene, which was tough for the friends.

According to Radcliffe, “She really went for it, I have to say. It caught me slightly off guard, but yeah, I’m not complaining. Many men would lose a limb to be in that position, so I was absolutely fine with it!”

Watson shared her experience, saying, “I guess I just realized that I would have fewer takes to do if I just got on with it and just gave [director] David [Yates] what he wanted, which was a passionate kiss. Which was something that would really rock Ron’s boat and really be quite painful and nasty for him to watch.”

Things were already tough enough for the pair, and having Rupert Grint around made things a bit tougher than they needed to be.

Grint said, “When they were there actually filming that kiss, they did actually want me there to kind of play off something, but I just found that too funny. Emma sent me out because I kept laughing. It just looked really strange.”

That’s right because he could not contain his laughter, Rupert Grint was sent away by Emma Watson herself. This was clearly an uncomfortable situation for all, but it is still funny to learn that Grint just couldn’t keep it together on set. Despite this, shooting successfully took place.

Watson was pleased with it all, saying, “I’m proud of it, and considering how bloody awkward it was. I’m really impressed that we managed to make it look anything other than awkward. Dan and I are like brother and sister, so it was tough making it look passionate, believe me.”

Even though Rupert Grint gave Watson and Radcliffe a hard time for their kissing scene in the movie, he had to do plenty of his own when he and Watson shared a kissing scene together. Turns out, this wasn’t as easy as some would think.

Grint told People, “I never look back at that scene. I've known Emma since she was literally nine years old and we had this very brother-sister relationship. And it just felt very surreal. I have a memory of her face getting closer and closer. Like, 'Oh my God.' I can't really remember anything apart from that.”

It can’t be easy to be thrust into a situation like that, especially considering that they quite literally all grew up together. However, there was simply no backing out of it at that point, and the actors just had to put on a brave face and get it done.

Watson also found it awkward, saying, “It's purely the fact that he's like my brother and we were both totally in the same boat. I'm sure he will tell you exactly the same thing. It was very strange and very weird. Believe me, we both wanted it to be over equally as much as the other. It's honestly like kissing my brother. It was weird.”

Despite the awkwardness involved with the kissing that the cast had to do, things ultimately worked out, as the franchise went on to make billions of dollars while also netting its stars some huge salaries. It was all worth it in the end, but the sight of Grint being kicked offset for laughing had to have been hilarious.
