Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, with his films having generated more than $15 billion at the box office to date. From flicks such as Titanic and Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood to Inception, The Great Gatsby, and The Revenant, this actor has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with on-screen.

But off-screen, the 47-year-old tends to keep a relatively low-profile, though he’s ever-so-often seen with a new brunette by his side. It’s no secret that DiCaprio is quite the ladies’ man, having shared relationships with so many models, it’s hard to keep up at this point — but fans have noticed that these romances never tend to last very long.

It’s almost as if DiCaprio has a new model by his side every year or so. On top of that, the California native had once said he didn’t believe in marriage and didn’t see himself having children before changing his tune in the late ‘00s, saying he did, in fact, believe in marriage.

So what’s been stopping the Hollywood veteran from settling down and becoming a dad? Here’s the lowdown…

Leonardo DiCaprio Backtracks On Comments About Marriage

At the start of his career, DiCaprio was very vocal in saying that he couldn’t see himself getting married to someone because he simply didn’t believe in the union.

Many people assumed that because he was still fairly young at the time he made those comments, DiCaprio just hadn’t put much thought on settling down in the near future, particularly as his career was just beginning to skyrocket.

He shared the same views on having children, prompting many to wonder why DiCaprio had such a negative stance on both topics.

But in 2008, during an interview with Parade, the Wolf of Wall Street actor said he was contradicting himself after admitting that he did finally want to get married and have children, which was quite the contrast from what he’d said in the past.

“I want to get married and have children. In saying that, I realize I am contradicting everything I’ve said before,” he told the publication. “I absolutely believe in marriage.”

At the time, DiCaprio was dating Israeli model Bar Refaeli, who had been with for two years. They remained a couple before calling it quits in 2011, which was when the wealthy movie star began dating a string of models.

He Then Said He Was ‘Too Busy’ For Kids

In 2010, DiCaprio did another interview with Germany’s OK Magazine, where he said he was too busy to settle down and have kids, which heavily implied that his career still stood at the forefront above other things such as becoming a dad or a husband.

During the candid chat, DiCaprio insisted he had yet to reach his full potential as an actor, despite having already helmed some of the most iconic film roles at the time.

When asked about perhaps becoming a dad in the near future, he responded, saying: "I'm not that old, my biological clock isn't ticking yet.

"I'd like to leave it to fate if and when I'm going to be a father. A part of me has too many professional plans to even seriously consider it. When I see the children in my family though, the idea of having children doesn't seem too far-fetched.”

He concluded: "In this business nothing is as dangerous and as feared as loneliness. You shoot films in the most remote areas of the world; you're separated from your family and your friends.

“And at some point you're in your hotel room looking at yourself in the mirror and you realize how lonely you are and how far you are from leading a normal life. That is quite a punch in the gut.”

DiCaprio Is A Workaholic

There’s no denying that DiCaprio loves his job as an actor.

In 2021, after a two-year hiatus, he returned to our screens when he starred as Dr. Randall Mindy opposite Jonah Hill and Jennifer Lawrence in the Netflix sci-fi Don’t Look Up.

DiCaprio recently wrapped production on his forthcoming flick Killer of the Flower Moon, with his follow-up project being an upcoming flick titled Jim Jones.

He has also been announced to star as Theodore Roosevelt in the forthcoming Roosevelt film, which is being directed by his longtime working colleague, director Martin Scorsese.

DiCaprio has a reported net worth of $280 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and earns an impressive $20 million per movie.
