After playing Cinderella and Mrs. De Winter in Netflix's mediocre remake of Rebecca, it's hard to picture Lily James playing Pamela Anderson in a Hulu series called Pam and Tommy—a biopic that will revolve around the former Playmate's sex tape with ex-husband, Tommy Lee. But it's really happening. Lily is set to play the bombshell alongside Captain America star, Sebastian Stan.
People on social media did not hold back on expressing their disappointment about the casting. The 53-year-old Baywatch star is still recognized as a sex symbol. It's so odd that a Disney princess is taking on such a mature role. Here's what fans really think.
They Should Have Cast Someone Else
Why pick Lily James of all the many bombshells in Hollywood, anyway? That's the mystery question. Many fans think that the role should have been given to Margot Robbie, Megan Fox, or Scarlet Johannson instead. These actresses have shown great range and are undoubtedly captivating in playing sultry roles.
Then again, it's possible that Lily's audition tape (if there was any) blew the casting directors away. The Downtown Abbey actress has always played sweet, innocent "English rose" characters, although she was recently caught having an affair with the married actor, Dominic West. Guess she might be a bit of a bad girl, too. Let's just hope we finally get to see some of that in this series.
People Just Don't See It
Aside from the good girl image issue, fans just don't see any resemblance between Lily and Pamela. And they're not really talking about the face. If you look closely, Lily could definitely look like Pam with some make-up trick. However, Pam is known for her voluptuous figure, and Lily's body type is remotely close to that.
But some fans are keeping an open mind. "I'm ok with the casting of Lily James as Pamela Anderson. If they are dealing with the period of time after the tape was stolen, Pam ended up losing A LOT of weight due to the stress of the tape being leaked while she was also filming Barb Wire," @Fleegull on Twitter said.
People Are Lowkey Hoping Lily Would Prove Them Wrong
Despite the negative opinions about the casting choice, many fans are still hoping Lily would surprise them in the series. For instance, many people also thought Cuba Gooding Jr. wasn't the best actor to play O.J. Simpson in American Crime Story. The actor looks and sounds nothing like the professional football player. Still, he's a good actor so it didn't matter that much. Could it be the same for Lily James as Pamela Anderson? We'll just have to wait and see.
