The Olsen Twins Decided To Leave Hollywood Due To Different Interests

They could have continued to be massive stars in the industry, though ultimately, the twins wanted to explore different interests. They would even turn down reuniting with their former cast on Fuller House.

The two briefly spoke about the decision, which dates back to 2013. It simply came down to not having a passion for acting projects and scripts.

"I was reading scripts, and ultimately I just said to the people who were representing me, 'I need to do things 100%. I don't feel like I can give you 100% of my time," she said. "There's a lot of compromise in the entertainment industry. I can't sit in this room and audition for this part," Ashley stated alongside Allure.

"What we did know was that we wanted to take that time to take a break from what we were previously doing and to explore things that interested us, and explore what life has to offer (creatively). We wanted to explore making something of ourselves."

Ultimately, they distanced themselves from Hollywood and these days, it seems as though that decision has not changed. The two remain very private, but active in other worlds.

Elizabeth Olsen Revealed Why Her Sisters Rarely Agree To Do Interviews

There most recent interview came in 2021, speaking alongside Vice's i-D Magazine. Prior to that, rarely has the twin duo spoken out. They've kept quiet about the reasoning, though sister Elizabeth Olsen did share some inside information.

According to Elizabeth Olsen alongside W Magazine, the sisters simply choose to remain quiet, given that the quotes they provide are usually taken out of context. The twins believe that what they say ultimately is really irrelevant due to how everyone interrupts it differently.

“I was not caring what I was saying [in interviews] because I’d assumed no one would read it,” Elizabeth said. “That’s when we’d have conversations. [Mary-Kate and Ashley] would say, ‘You know, even if you don’t think anyone’s going to read this article, someone might pull the quote later for [something else].’ It’s all part of how you hope someone interprets you, and how they frame who you are and the work you do. They’re very tight-lipped—notoriously so.”

They finally did provide some quotes last year and of course, the emphasis wasn't on their personal lives but instead, their business venture.

The Olsen Twins Want To Be Background Players In Their Latest Venture

When discussing their fashion brand, The Row, the Olsen twins made it very clear, they don't want to be thrust into the spotlight. Instead, they want to create unique pieces while making the brand shine on its own.

"We really didn’t want to be in front of it," Ashley Olsen said. "We didn’t necessarily even want to let people know it was us, in a way. I mean, it was one of those things where it was really about the product, to the point where we’re like, ‘Who could we get to kind of front this so we don’t have to?’ I think, to this day, you’ll see we really put the product first."

Ultimately, the two are very happy staying in the background, especially due to the positive reviews their brand has been receiving.

"I am happy that people look at it as a perfect product, or products that feel complete, or whole. I think the reason that we do fashion is to constantly try to fix our imperfections, and you always have next season to do that. It’s also our job to find every imperfection in there to make sure that we’re constantly pushing ourselves and training our eyes and making sure everyone is served. Just evolving and learning," Marie-Kate Olsen stated alongside i-D Magazine.
