A few years ago, people would have scoffed if anyone said that actors on TV commercials would become veritable celebrities. But these days, it's clear that times have changed.

Not only does Flo from Progressive make bank on her insurance commercial gig, but so do other stars on the formerly boring car/home insurance circuit.

Jake from State Farm, for example, is now the headlining act in countless commercials. He's even gotten to star in spots with celebs like Drake, among others.

Remember, Jake replaced the previous (and actual) Jake from State Farm, and that was an intentional move on the insurance giant's part.

The problem is, not all TV viewers are happy with the swap.

Why Don't Viewers Like The New Jake?

Plenty of people are unhappy with the "new" Jake, whose real name is Kevin, but they had trouble agreeing on the specific reasons why. Apparently, there's a lot to hate about the new State Farm spots, and viewers aren't shy about sharing their opinions.

Some complained about the tag line for all State Farm commercials; "Like a good neighbor... State Farm is there." It's the pause that gets some of them, because it sounds unnatural. Of course, that's the marketing folks and not the actor himself.

But that's not the only complaint about the new and clearly not improved Jake.

Viewers Don't Find The Commercials Funny

Another issue that viewers have with Jake's new spots? Some complain that his voice is grating, like nails on a chalkboard. That complaint aside, though, it's more his personality (or his fake persona?) that people don't like.

It's just cheesy, they say, to have someone handing Jake a huge stack of "Flinstone steaks" in appreciation for their affordable car insurance policy, for example.

Each spot centers on Jake getting recognition for, well, doing his job as an insurance agent (though in reality, he's just an actor, of course). Viewers aren't happy that he's being idolized, mostly because they find him annoying and "overdone."

Plus, he's got nothing in common with the original Jake, who was literally just doing his job at a call center.

Viewers think that State Farm has gone off the rails by trying to package their new and improved Jake as the spokesperson for the company, and plenty of people suggest that they only did it to 'change with the times.'

Regardless, the actor who portrays the new Jake isn't at the top of anyone's list. What's worse, viewers say, is that Kevin even personifies State Farm on his social media; he has very little history as actual Kevin.

It's almost like his life began when he took on the role, which is already sort of creepy on its own. Maybe viewers have a point?
