In just a matter of years, Elizabeth Olsen has quickly become one of the most prominent talents in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following some critically acclaimed film performances when she was a younger actress, Olsen went on to land the role of Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlett Witch, first making a cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier before starring in various other MCU films.Olsen also went on to co-lead Marvel’s very first Disney+ series, WandaVision, which led to a well-deserved Emmy nod. Soon after, the actress also starred opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where the character seemingly met her end (although Olsen wasn’t too upset about that). Since then, it’s been unclear if Olsen will return to the MCU again. Recently, however, Marvel may have given some hints about her future.

Since Multiverse Of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen Has Been Busy With Her Upcoming Mini-Series

Marvel stars have always ventured into outside projects in between their MCU films and shows. Olsen has also done this in the past and after Multiverse of Madness, the actress has been busy working on HBO’s upcoming crime biopic Love and Death.

Much like the Hulu series Candy headlined by Jessica Biel, Love and Death tells the story of Candy Montgomery (Olsen) who murdered her friend as she carried out an affair with her friend’s husband.

The role certainly represents a darker turn for Olsen considering what she’s just been through with Wanda, but that’s just how she likes it.

“I love playing characters whose actions people disagree with,” the veteran actress explained. “In a world where we don’t really care to understand other points of view, I feel like if we as an audience can have empathy for people we don’t agree with, that’s a good thing.”

As for portraying a real-life murderer onscreen, Olsen has been clear with her approach. “I adored playing her,” she said.

“People would ask: ‘Are you going to play her as a sociopath?’ And I was like, ‘No, why would I do that? I’m going to try and understand how someone would be able to compartmentalize this until they were caught.”

And while details on the show itself are a little scarce at the moment, director and executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter has nothing but praise for Olsen after filming the series with her for seven months in Texas.

“She is substantial. She always has been. She has done the work — on herself, on her craft,” the director said of Olsen.

“There are a couple of scenes where I am just on her face, and you see the universe. You see the whole story. You see the world, just looking at her face. There’s that much going on behind her eyes.”

Marvel’s Kevin Feige Says They’d ‘Work With Lizzie For Another 100 Years’

Especially with how Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it would easily seem to some fans like Olsen’s time in the MCU is over.

If one may recall, Wanda ends up making the ultimate sacrifice to destroy the evil temple atop Mount Wundagore. And while the audience was introduced to another version of Wanda in the multiverse, that character doesn’t show up in the post-credits sequence.

This essentially left Wanda’s fate up in the air. That is, until now.

As longtime fans may know, the MCU tends to operate under a cloak of secrecy, sharing only a few tidbits regarding its casting and project lineup here and there.

When it comes to Olsen though, Marvel Studios has nothing but love for the actress. “She’s incredibly humble and incredibly down-to-earth,” Kevin Feige, Marvel’s head honcho, said of the star. “And yet when those cameras roll, it’s a force of nature.”

Meanwhile, when it comes to continuing work with Olsen, Feige also remarked, “I’d work with Lizzie for another 100 years if we could.”

And while he didn’t mention any concrete plans, Feige also teased, “Anything’s possible in the multiverse! We’ll have to see.”

And while the character appears to have been killed by the collapse of the temple, Marvel’s boss also hinted that Wanda may well have survived that. “I don’t know that we saw her under rubble?” Feige pointed out. “I saw a tower coming down, and a little red flash. I don’t know what that means.”

Elizabeth Olsen Has Ideas For Wanda’s Future In The MCU Too

For now, Olsen doesn’t know what that means either. “I really don’t know my future,” the actress said, adding that there is “nothing that has been agreed on.”

However, she did say that she would love to see Wanda on the path of “some sort of redemption” following Multiverse of Madness.

At the same time, Olsen is also open to the idea of doing a solo Wanda movie, so long as it makes perfect sense. I think I would. But it really needs to be a good story,” the actress explained.

“I think these films are best when it’s not about creating content, but about having a very strong point of view — not because you need to have a three-picture plan.”
