There was a whirlwind of controversy earlier this month when Woody Allen’s memoir was to be released but was then dropped by its publisher. The book was quietly picked up by a different publisher quite recently.

Now Allen’s Apropos Of Nothing has a “home” with Arcade Publishing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Backlash And A New Beginning

We reported on The Things how Hachette Book Group, who was originally set to publish Allen’s memoir, decided to drop the deal after major backlash.

Workers walked out on their jobs, and Ronan Farrow (Allen’s estranged son) was livid. Farrow works with Hachette, who published his book, Catch And Kill, through one of their imprints. He was in disbelief that the same company would be involved with Allen and was baffled and blindsided.

Arcade Is A-OK With Allen

Arcade was up for giving Allen a shot, stating, “The book is a candid and comprehensive personal account by Woody Allen of his life.” An editor with the publishing company explained, “In this strange time, when truth is too often dismissed as 'fake news,' we as publishers prefer to give voice to a respected artist, rather than bow to those determined to silence him."

The Autobiography

Allen has been named as a subject of the #MeToo movement among growing allegations that he sexually abused his daughter. These allegations have tainted his image for decades, although he was never charged with any crimes.

The memoir covers nearly all aspects of Allen’s life and touches on everything from his work to his personal life.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, “No decisions had been made on whether (Allen) would give any interviews. Financial details for his deal with Arcade were not released.”

A Bestseller Or A Bust?

Will Apropos Of Nothing become a bestseller? We’ll have to wait and see. Plenty of people are hunkered down at home with little to do as the coronavirus prevails - perhaps this will be the perfect time to flip through these pages....
