12 MCU Character Exits That Were Huge Mistakes (+3 We're Surprised Are Still Around)

Despite the fact that some truly incredible action has been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans of the series care about the franchise’s characters first and foremost. For example, Black Panther is one of the most popular MCU movies due to the strength of its main characters which is evidenced by the fact that its action sequences are considered weak by many.

Keeping in mind that one of the greatest strengths of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is its characters, it is really surprising that they showed some really entertaining ones the door prematurely. Alternatively, some of the series’ characters have outlived their usefulness and need exit stage left. With that in mind, it is time to take a look at this list of 12 Marvel Cinematic Universe character exits that were a huge mistake and 3 we can’t believe are still around.

15 We Can’t Believe They Are Still Around: Eitri

Via codigoespagueti.com

Just like most people with taste, we love the work of Peter Dinklage. For that reason, we think it is a crying shame that he wasn’t given a more interesting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe than Eitri.

Essentially a glorified weapons maker, having an actor of Dinklage’s caliber play Eitri makes the character's continued existence in the MCU a problem as viewers are bound to expect more from him.

14 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Abomination

Via wegotthiscovered.com

First off, from a size and power perspective alone, it makes absolutely no sense that Abomination has never shown up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since The Incredible Hulk. On top of that, the character was portrayed by Tim Roth who is a fantastic actor we’d love to see more of in our favorite superhero series of movies.

13 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Hela

Via comicvine.gamespot.com

Widely considered to be among the MCU’s most entertaining films, Thor: Ragnarok also featured one of the series’ most intimidating villains in Cate Blanchett’s Hela. Seemingly destroyed at the end of that film, that is a real shame as Hela was a powerful enough being that it would have been amazing to see her go up against the combined forces of the Avengers.

12 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Zuri

Via comicbook.com

Actually nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, one of the main reasons why Black Panther was such a great movie is how expertly the film set up the culture of Wakanda. Perfectly cast as one of the most respected members of that society, Forest Whitaker helped make Zuri a character with real gravitas.

As such, it was powerful when Killmonger took his life but his character brought so much depth to Wakanda that it shouldn’t have happened.

11 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Ulysses Klaue

Via comicbook.com

From one entry about a Black Panther character to another, this time around it is time to take a look at Ulysses Klaue. A weapons trader with a vicious streak a mile long, how great would have been if Klaue became something similar to a villainous version of Nick Fury? Constantly supplying other dastardly characters with weapons and manipulating them into doing his bidding.

10 We Can’t Believe They Are Still Around: Mantis

Via YouTube.com

Had Mantis remained nothing more than a supporting character in the MCU, that would have been fine as she is amusing enough and her powers are somewhat interesting. However, now that she is a full-fledged member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, she needs to bring a lot more to the films and it doesn’t seem like her character is capable of doing that.

9 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Baron Strucker

Via breakinggeek.com

Quite possibly the most disappointing character on this list, from watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies alone you would walk away thinking that Baron Strucker is a joke. Actually, a huge deal in the comics, if the movies hadn’t killed Strucker off so quickly they could have corrected their mistake by giving him a storyline worthy of the character.

8 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Erik Killmonger

Via pinterest.ca

In a lot of ways, we totally understand why Erik Killmonger met his untimely demise at the end of Black Panther. After all, his story had come to a satisfying end and he’d clearly changed the mind of the titular hero. However, Michael B. Jordan was so compelling in the role that the world wants more of him.

7 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Ego

Via collider.com

If you ask us, Ego is a villain that oftentimes doesn’t get the credit he deserves. After all, at first we really wanted him to be the caring dad he was pretending to be and then we were filled with internal rage when what he did to Star-Lord’s mom was revealed. When a character elicits emotions that strong, it is a mistake for a franchise to give them up so quickly.

6 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Heimdall

Via themarysue.com

Easily one of the most in-demand actors in the world today, Idris Elba always seems to be on the shortlist of people in the running for Hollywood’s highest-profile roles. As such, it makes no sense at all that the MCU failed to take better advantage of his skills. In fact, we would’ve loved it if Heimdall was made the star of a Thor spin-off film instead of him leaving the franchise behind.

5 We Can’t Believe They Are Still Around: Ghost

Via bamsmackpow.com

During the early years of the MCU, one of the most common complaints fans had was its weak villains. Thankfully, that problem has largely disappeared of late but Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp simply wasn’t very compelling. While her backstory was relatable, she was a one-note character we certainly don’t want more of which is why it is baffling that movie made a big deal of her escape.

4 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Grant Ward

Via comicvine.gamespot.com

For those of you who have no idea who Grant Ward is, his character starred in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. early on and he is one of the most nuanced villains in the history of the MCU. Revealed to be a member of Hydra before too long, you could tell he still cared about the Shield agents he’d come to know which made his interactions with them fascinating whenever he showed up.

3 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Lady Sif

Via comicvine.gamespot.com

Given the fact that the Thor movies have been chocked full of many popular characters, including the God of Thunder, Loki, Frigga, and Odin, it was hard for supporting players to stand out. Despite that, Lady Sif managed to come across like a fierce warrior who we wanted to see in battle a lot more and her relationship with Thor had loads of potential.

2 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Ebony Maw

Via bleedingcool.com

When it comes to Avengers: Infinity War, there is absolutely no doubt that Thanos stole the show. However, one of his underlings also got us excited, Ebony Maw. A powerful being who could control things with his mind, Maw has also been described as having a “black tongue that spreads mischief and evil wherever he goes”.

While we loved seeing his powers, it is the fact that we won’t get to hear his beautifully worded diatribes ever again that really makes us sad.

1 Exit Was A Huge Mistake: Samuel Sterns

Via aux.avclub.com

Sadly introduced during the MCU movie that most often is forgotten, The Incredible Hulk’s Samuel Sterns is based on the comic book character The Leader. A brilliant villain who can outsmart virtually everyone, the fact that we never got to see him match wits with Bruce Banner and Tony Stark or face the wrath of The Hulk is truly sad.
