Zendaya has left fans scratching their heads once again as she adds a new twist to her rumored romance with Spider-Man co-star, Tom Holland.
During a recent collaboration with British Vogue, in which Zendaya goes on a journey through her past Instagram posts, she focuses on a goofy picture of her and Holland on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The picture shows Zendaya clinging onto Holland, who is fully dressed in his Spider-Man costume, as she pulls a funny face at the camera.
While explaining the story behind the picture, Zendaya opened up about the filming conditions surrounding the photographed scene. Holland and herself would often wave, pull silly faces, and interact with fans between takes as they suspended above them in the air. She then followed on to describe the ordeal as a “really strange and surreal experience” which she was able to share with “one of her best friends”, referring to Holland.
The term of endearment left fans feeling confused as the interview was released following leaked pictures of Zendaya and Holland kissing inside of a car, which seemingly confirms their relationship status as more than “best friends."
Since the leak of the paparazzi pictures, the pair seem to have begun publicizing their relationship. For example, in Holland's adorable Instagram post for Zendaya’s birthday, posted September 1, he addresses her as “My MJ” as he wishes her a happy birthday and prompts her to call him when she awakens. The post racked up a whopping 18.2 million likes and 164K comments from eager “Tomdaya” fans showing their support and adoration.
Another hint that the pair have made their relationship official comes from footage of the pair cuddling and holding hands at a close friend’s wedding.
However, following the recent Vogue interview, some fans seem to believe that the pair have chosen to remain friends, as one wrote, “The paparazzi pictures were taken months ago, and here she's still calling him a friend.”
But “Tomdaya” fans were quick to defend their favorite duo as they claim that the Vogue video was filmed prior to the photos being released online and that the hairstyle Zendaya wore is a giveaway sign as it was the same she wore a few months ago. They wrote, “Yeah it's her hair from months ago, it was a photoshoot for Vogue she did in late June.”
Another fan even defended Zendaya calling Holland her “best friend” and believed that it had nothing to do with their relationship status as they wrote, “yea and my boyfriend is my beat [sic] friend lol. I would hope that’s the case for everyone.”
