Zoe Kravitz has been making some serious strides in her acting career, and the performer has been turning in some great performances in recent years. Instead of just being looked at as Lenny Kravtiz’s daughter, the stylish Zoe has been making a name for herself and turning heads while doing so.

She’s set to be Catwoman on the big screen in the near future, but years back, Kravitz took part in a small film that required her to shed some weight. In fact, the actress got all the way down to just 90 lbs. for her performance. Physical transformations are always difficult, but Kravitz pulled it off and wound up delivering a solid performance in the film.

Let’s take a look at the small film that saw Zoe Kravitz drop down to 90 lbs.

Kravitz Has Had A Surging Career

During the 2000s, Zoe Kravitz made her debut in the world of acting, and it would take some time for the actress to really show the world what she could do. In more recent years, however, Zoe Kravitz has been a rising star who is making waves in major projects. At this point, it won’t be much longer before she is a headlining A-lister.

Much of her work has been on the big screen, and Kravitz has appeared in movies like X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, the Fantastic Beasts series, and even the Divergent series. She is set to star in The Batman, and she even lent her voice to Into the Spider-Verse. On television, the star made waves on Big Little Lies, and people were were blown away with her performance on the series. Kravitz is doing amazing work, and back in 2014, she shed a ton of weight for a role in a smaller film.

She Starred In ‘The Road Within’

Released back in 2014, The Road Within was a film that featured a talented cast, which included Robert Sheehan of Umbrella Academy fame, Dev Patel, and Zoe Kravitz. These are some exceptionally talented performers, and they all worked diligently to bring the script to life in the smaller project. The Road Within didn’t receive a ton of love from critics upon its release, as indicated by its 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans seemed to like the movie a bit better, but this project wasn’t exactly in contention for the Oscars that year. Nevertheless, the performances given in the film were solid.

Fans and critics alike took note of Zoe Kravitz, who had shed weight for her role in the film. Little did people know that she had actually dropped down to just 90 lbs. for her performance.

She Dropped Down To 90 Lbs. For The Film

So, how in the world did Zoe Kravitz manage to get down to 90 lbs. for her role in the film? Turns out, the actress used a cleanse and some exercise to get the job done.

According to Kravitz, “Losing all the weight—I’ve never done anything like that before. I put my body through so much and at first it was really hard to even have a conversation because I was so lightheaded all the time. On top of just being tired, I had to try and perform, so it was very unique experience. I lost like 20 pounds, so I was 90 pounds while we filmed. I tried to do it in a healthy way, but it’s not a healthy thing to do—I would never tell anyone to lose that amount of weight and especially not that quickly. I basically did a cleanse and was drinking pureed vegetables and tea, and running every day.”

This type of calorie deficit played a major part in the actress looking the part, but she still needed to get into character for the film. After all, it’s one thing to look the part, but the most important thing is that the performer can actually play the role in the way that the director wants. Kravitz, however, didn’t struggle getting into character. “That was pretty easy for me—I struggled with an eating disorder in high school and into my early 20s. That’s part of what actually attracted me to the role; I think it’s really important to talk about body image and the struggles a lot of women have with food—especially in the entertainment industry. I related to her in a lot of ways,” she said.
